FCTUBEB/UBEC HOLD BASIC EDUCATION SCHOOL SPORTS COMPETITION FINALS. by : Ossai Patience

 

The FCT Universal Basic Education Board in collaboration with the Universal Basic Education Commission( UBEC) today, 20th March, 2024 staged the state finals of the Basic Education School Sports Competition for 2022 Intervention Fund for the Primary and Junior Secondary Schools in the Territory. A total of 11 schools participated in the sporting contest.

 

In his speech, the Acting Executive Chairman of the Board, Dr. Alhassan Sule ably represented by Mrs. Jacqueline Amasike , Director, Teacher Professional Development in the Board welcomed every one to the event which she said was made possible because of the 2022 intervention of UBEC/UBEB for Basic School Sports.

 

She told the forum that the students were there because they are the best.She noted that track and field events ranging from , 200meters , 100 meters, relay races , volley ball and football will feature in the competition.

 

She underscored the importance of sports in the lives of students and individuals. Benefits of sports ,she said include: Improves self -esteem and confidence of the students that enable them to do their best, It promotes leadership skill development and such skills will help the students stand out in the future, Sports, she added promotes physical,emotional well being of individuals and by so doing , enhances stability and balance in addition to building social skills amongst contestants. She encouraged them to give in their best and maintained that only those who are gallant will emerge winners.

 

In her Speech, Dr. Lydia Gbagi, UBEC Basic Education School Sports Desk Officer, congratulated the students for their sporting spirit which they have displayed. She averred that in UBEC/ UBEB Sports , there is no winner or loser, the most important thing is participation and to harness talents by catching them young.

 

She affirmed that the students are growing better everyday as more fund is being put in School Sports.

 

The Director Administration and Supplies of the Board, Mr. Joseph Asa kicked the ball signaling the beginning of the Football match.

 

Delivering her Vote of Thanks, Hajia Ramatu Nusa, Director Junior Secondary School in the Board, heartily appreciated the participating students and schools. She also thanked the teachers for training the students and bringing talents amongst the learners. School Sports, Hajia Nusa noted is obligatory in schools.

 

She gave a profusion of thanks to the Acting Executive Chairman of the Board, Dr. Alhassan Sule for utilizing the intervention fund that made the event a reality.

 

Trophies and medals were awarded the winning schools.
