In a remarkable demonstration of commitment to community development, educational advancement, and improved school welfare, the Rotary Club of Abuja Sapphire has carried out a major intervention at Junior Secondary School, Lokogoma, Abuja. The intervention included the renovation of four existing toilet units, the construction of six additional modern toilet facilities, and the donation of 120 students’ desks to support teaching and learning in the school.

The project is a significant contribution toward improving sanitation, promoting hygiene, and creating a more conducive learning environment for students. Access to functional toilet facilities remains an important part of school health and safety, while adequate classroom furniture directly supports students’ comfort, concentration, and academic participation.

The completed facilities and donated desks were officially handed over to the management of the FCT Universal Basic Education Board in a brief but significant ceremony held at the school. The handover was received on behalf of the Board by the Acting Executive Chairman of FCTUBEB, Lady Florence Dawon Wenegieme.

Speaking during the event, Lady Wenegieme commended the Rotary Club of Abuja Sapphire for its thoughtful and impactful contribution to basic education in the Federal Capital Territory. She noted that interventions of this nature complement the efforts of the Board in improving school infrastructure and strengthening the quality of the learning environment across FCT public basic schools.

She further emphasized that partnerships with public-spirited organisations such as Rotary remain essential in addressing the needs of schools and ensuring that learners have access to safe, healthy, and supportive educational spaces. According to her, the renovated and newly constructed toilet facilities will contribute greatly to improved hygiene and dignity for students, while the donated desks will help reduce classroom furniture gaps and improve the overall learning experience.

The Board expressed its appreciation to the Rotary Club of Abuja Sapphire for choosing Junior Secondary School, Lokogoma, as a beneficiary of the intervention and for demonstrating genuine commitment to the welfare of students. FCTUBEB also called on other organisations, development partners, alumni associations, and well-meaning individuals to emulate the gesture by supporting initiatives that enhance school infrastructure and promote quality basic education.

The intervention stands as a commendable example of effective collaboration between government institutions and community-based service organisations. It also reflects the shared responsibility required to build safe, inclusive, and child-friendly schools where learners can thrive academically, socially, and physically.
