FCT UBEB TEACHERS SHINE

It was a heartwarming moment in the conference room of the FCT Universal Basic Education Board where the teachers who had distinguished themselves in their various assignments were presented with letters of commendation. 

It should be recalled that these Teachers were given honorarium during the just concluded 2022 Edition of the FCT Education Secretariat Staff and Schools Excellence Awards programme and also in the President's Teachers and School Excellence Award.  The awards were in six categories namely: Best Teacher, Primary; Best School Administrator Primary; Best Public Primary School; Best Teacher of Junior Secondary; Best School Administrator of Junior Secondary Schools and Best Junior Secondary School.
A total of 24 Teachers were duly recognized and honoured for their dedication, commitment and high sense of responsibilities displayed in carrying out their duties.  Briefing the forum, the Director of Special Duties, Mrs Oremeyi Ojo who was amongst the committee that conducted the screening and selection for those qualified for the honour gave a run down on how the selection exercise was carried out till the final committee stage.

She advised that Principals should give commendation letter of award to teachers that excel.  She stated that some teachers got award at the Presidential level while others distinguished themselves at LEA and Secretariat level. She added that the commendation letter will encourage them to continue to give their best at all times.  In his address during the occasion, the Acting Executive Chairman of FCT Universal Basic Education Board, Dr. Alhassan Sule applauded the teachers and referred to them as worthy ambassadors of the Board. He stated that their activities have made the Board to take a leading role and be a reference point. The Acting Chairman promised to support them within his capacity to ensure they achieve their potentials.

The Chairman also stressed on quality education for the children which he maintained will be the solution to what the nation is passing through.  Remarking at the occasion, the Director of Primary School Services, Hajia Habiba Barau congratulated the teachers and stated that it pays to be hardworking. She told the teachers that the award should encourage them to work harder. She ended by saying that “when much is giving, much is expected in return”.
In his vote of thanks, Mr. Johnbull Enaohwo, Principal,Junior Secondary School phase three Gwagwalada  on behalf of the teachers thanked the Board's management for the recognition accorded them. He prayed that the momentum should not be step down but rather the Board should grow from strength to strength and aspire for the best. He also expressed his hope that more schools will participate in the selection exercise of the award in the nearest future and added that when more school participate there will be good result.

Also speaking, the Director of Physical Planning and Project Monitoring, Arch. Mansur Sule thanked God for the opportunity to witness such a great moment. He advised that that the commendation should be given a wide coverage so that other teachers will emulate the exemplary work of the awardees. This, the Arch said will advance the course of Basic Education in FCT and Nigeria at large. He also craved the indulgence of the management to extend such opportunity to deserving non- academic staff who also excel in their assignments.
