FCT UBEB ORGANIZES AGRICULTURAL DEBATE COMPETITION FOR SCHOOLS by Ossai Patience.
As part of her effort to stimulate the Learners interest in Agriculture geared towards making them self reliant, the FCT Universal Basic Education Board conducted Agricultural Education training programme( AETP), 2019, batch Debate Competition among Public Junior Secondary and Primary School pupils in the territory.
In her speech at the event, Mrs. Jacqueline Amasike, Director Teacher Professional Development of the Board who represented Dr. Alhassan Sule , acting Executive Chairman UBEB, stated that the importance of Agriculture cannot be overemphasized and that goal of the programme is targetted at growing skilled farmers to take the nation's food production to a higher level like other developed nations of the world. Hence , the need to rekindle the interest of the children from the cradle.
She maintained that in the competition ,there is no loser. The Director thanked the management for making the programme possible.
Earlier in his introductory remarks, the Assistant Coordinator of the programme and Desk Officer Agric, Mr. Wilfred Inchitiwa harped on the need to reinvest in Agriculture based on research conducted by Agric experts. Nigeria, he said is well endowed and exposing the children to practical skills in Agriculture is a way of ensuring food security. He told the forum that the first round of the Debate was conducted in the Six Area Councils and the schools that qualified made it to the finals of the competition.
Remarking at occasion, Hajia Habiba Barau Aliyu, Director, Primary School Services was highly pleased with the outcome of the Competition.She reiterated that the learners were all winners. She congratulated the teachers for their hardwork and dedication in grooming the students. Hajia Aliyu enjoined the Primary School teachers not to underate themselves and whether a director in Primary or Junior Secondary School, we are all one. She commended JSS Kuchiko for the powerful recitation of the New National Anthem., Nigeria we hail thee.
12 schools , 6 JSS and 6 Primary Schools with the total no of 36 learners participated in the debate which has the topic: Animal production is better than crop production. The children argued for and against.
At the end of the contest, in the Primary category , LEA Primary School Nomadic Dutse came first , followed by LEA Primary School Shere which took the second place.The third position went to LEA Primary Shadadi.
In the Junior Secondary category , JSS Pegi emerged first, coming closely behind them in the second place was JSS Dawaki. JSS Kuchiko made it to the third position.
Plaques of honours were given to the winners.
