FCT-UBEB Strengthens Focus on Staff Welfare, Sets Up Committee for Staff Screening

The Management of the Federal Capital Territory Universal Basic Education Board (FCT-UBEB) has pledged to improve staff welfare, particularly in the areas of marriage, childbirth, and bereavement.

This commitment was emphasized during the board’s management meeting, where concerns were raised about the board’s limited support for staff welfare. The discussion followed the recent loss of two staff members, which highlighted the need for a more structured welfare system.

Addressing the meeting, the Acting Executive Chairman of FCT-UBEB, Dr. Alhassan Sule, recalled that the welfare committee had earlier agreed that even modest contributions could go a long way in supporting staff during critical life events. He proposed the establishment of a domiciliary account where such contributions could be pooled and saved for future use, ensuring timely and adequate support for staff members.

The meeting also deliberated on the upcoming screening exercise for staff due for elongation and awards. Dr. Sule announced that a committee will be constituted to ensure due diligence in the process. He stressed that only qualified candidates without deficiencies will be considered and urged the committee to uphold fairness, transparency, and integrity throughout the exercise.

The resolutions mark a renewed commitment by FCT-UBEB to enhance staff welfare and maintain credibility in staff recognition and promotion processes.
